The Honors College welcomes applications from first-year students entering UIC in Fall 2018.

How to Apply:

The UIC Honors College application process is two-fold. Applicants must apply to UIC as a first-year student using The Common Application. The UIC Honors College application is located within the UIC First Year Supplement of The Common Application.

  • 1. Visit the UIC Office of Admissions website for application requirements.
  • 2. Submit a completed Common Application along with the UIC First Year Supplement.
  • 3. In the “Questions” tab of the UIC First Year Supplement, apply to the UIC Honors College and submit the required Honors College Statement.

    Honors College Statement: (400-500 word limit): In its mission statement, the UIC Honors College is described as a community of scholars whose goal is to enrich the educational experience of undergraduates and allow the faculty and students of all disciplines to interact in teaching, learning, and research. How can you contribute to the Honors College community? What benefits do you expect in return? Please be advised that you are required to submit an Honors College essay at time of application for full consideration.

  • 4. Submit two (2) letters of recommendation

    Letters should be from people who can attest to the applicant’s academic and professional capabilities; family members are not acceptable sources. The selection committees prefer that recommenders address the student’s experience in the following areas as observed: academic ability, motivation, intellectual curiosity, maturity, responsibility, written expression of ideas, and research aptitude. School Counselor Evaluation forms (that contains a letter) may also be accepted as a letter of recommendation.

    Letters of recommendation can be submitted electronically or via mail:

    1. Electronic submission: Invite recommenders to submit letters electronically via The Common Application. Important: You must assign your recommenders after they have been invited for the letters to be received.
    2. Mail or In-Person Submission: Send letters in a sealed envelope with recommender’s signature over the flap. Mail all documents to the following address:

If you are interested in applying to the Honors College, but have already submitted your UIC Supplement to The Common Application without indicating that you wanted to be considered for the Honors College, please access a secondary Honors College application through this link. My school only gives one set of original documents. What if I cannot get “official” transcripts or marksheets?

The Office of Admissions does not require you to submit your original documents to the university. We understand that many universities only issue one set of original documents to students. Students should plan to submit attested copies of all original documents to UIC. This can be done by making copies of your transcripts, marksheets, and/or degrees and having them stamped (certified) by the registrar or Controller of Examinations at your school. The school official must also certify that they sealed the envelope by stamping the envelope flap.

If your school refuses to issue the required documents, you will need to request a letter from the registrar or Controller of Examinations explaining their policy. This letter should be submitted to UIC in a sealed envelope which bears the stamp of the individual who is issuing the statement.

Please note that this exception will only be considered by the Office of Admissions in extreme circumstances. UIC has experience working with applicants from around the world and realizes that circumstances vary, but submitting such a letter will not guarantee that the request for official documents will be lifted.

All documents submitted to UIC become the property of the University. Documents will not be released to the applicant or forwarded to other institutions or agencies. Please do not submit your original or only set of academic credentials. No documents will be returned to you.
